Command Sergeant Major Hans Jürgen Stark was born in Saarlouis, Saarland near the French border on July 17, 1967.
He joined the German Army, Signal Intelligence and Electronic Warfare Branch, in January 1987. In 1994 he was selected for a regular appointment.
 
In July 2011, he achieved the rank of Sergeant Major.
 
CSM Stark has had the following assignments:                                      
Team Leader, NCO Course Instructor, and Platoon Leader Basic Training Company, 940th Signal Intelligence Battalion;
Company Operations Sergeant, HHC, 940th Signal Intelligence Regiment;
SIGINT Interceptor, EW Company, MND SE, Bosnia-Herzegovina;
Company Operations Sergeant, HHC, 94th Signal Intelligence Brigade; 
First Sergeant, HHC, 94th Signal Intelligence Brigade;
German Army Liaison SGM, US Army Intelligence Center, Ft. Huachuca;
First Sergeant, HHC, Strategic Reconnaissance Command;
First Sergeant, HHC, Signal Intelligence Brigade 93;
Instructor, US Army Sergeants Major Academy;
First Sergeant, Multinational Support Coy, Afghanistan;
First Sergeant, 931th Signal Intelligence Battalion.
 
His military education includes:
Non-commissioned Officers (NCO) Communications Intelligence Course; NCO Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical Reconnaissance System Course; NCO Electronic Data Processing Course; Close Quarter Battle Course; Several sports courses including Soccer Instructor; Player in the German Armed Forces National Soccer Team (1995 -1997); First Sergeant’s Course; Sergeants Major Course, USASMA (Class 58).

His military awards and decorations include:
The Bronze, Silver, and Golden Cross of Honor of the Federal Armed Forces; Three NATO Service Medals; the Service Medal of the Federal Armed Forces for the mission in former Yugoslavia; ISAF Service Medal; Resolute Support Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal; Army Achievement Medal; Army Commendation Medal as well as the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge in Gold (5).
 
CSM Stark is an honorary member of the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club.
 
Jürgen Stark is married and has a daughter.
