Summary: NATO Force Integration Unit Romania (NFIU ROU) is a headquarter part of the NATO Force Structure (NFS) that will provide a vital link between national forces and multinational NATO forces. NFIU ROU is part of the Readiness Action Plan (RAP) approved at the Wales Summit. RAP provides a comprehensive package of measures to respond to the changed security environment on NATO’s borders. NFIU ROU will have a key role in ensuring that NATO’s high-readiness forces (Very High Readiness Joint Task Force- VJTF) can deploy to the region as quickly as possible. NFIU ROU is one of the two NFIU’s under operational Command and Control (C2) of Joint Force Command Naples (JFC NP).

Mission: Assigned specifically to Romanian territory, with primary responsibility to facilitate the rapid deployment of the VJTF and other NRF elements held at high readiness levels in order to enhance Alliance responsiveness.

Main tasks:
• Prepare and support the Reception, Staging and Onward Movement (RSOM) of the VJTF, and other NRF elements;
• Support Article V operations, planning and exercises, including fostering coherence with national defence planning;
• Support to Non-Article V operations, where appropriate, and agreed by nations;
• Coordinate and assist multi-national training and exercises in Romania;
• Prepare and support the sustainment of the VJTF, and other NRF elements;
• Support the ongoing Assurance Measures (AM), including preparing to receive, support the integration into operational C2(s) and enable the sustainment of Combat and Combat Support elements engaged in AM activities.

Inauguration and activation:
The inauguration ceremony was held on 2nd  July 2015 and formal attended by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and President of  Romania Klaus Werner Iohannis; the activation ceremony took place  on 3rd of September 2015.
